BACKGROUND

A1 Personnel have been trading with Morrisons since 2009 when the distribution centre opened in Sittingbourne.  In this time we have evolved a bespoke onsite solution that manages the daily workforce fluctuations and enables Morrisons to flex number with sometimes only an hours notice.  This ability means that as a distribution centre, Morrisons are able to react quickly to market demands whilst minimising staffing costs.

The Morrisons Distribution Centre at Sittingbourne operates chilled and ambient warehouses.  Within FMCG markets it is always difficult to forecast stock levels and demand.  Morrisons required an agency to maintain a pool of 70 – 100 trained and inducted workers who are able to meet targeted pick levels when required at short notice.

When the site opened A1 Personnel were asked to supply 15 temporary staff to assist with increasing demands on the DC.  Over our first 2 weeks of supply, A1 Personnel identified that the utilisation of a contingent workforce could offer large cost savings to the client.  A1 Personnel opened an office onsite and increased our availability pool to 50 temporaries.  Because of our experience with retail distribution our Onsite Account Manager was able to assist with training and inducting the temporaries.  This reduced attrition and increased the success rate of new inductees.

CURRENT SERVICE

In the 2 years that A1 Personnel have been working with Morrisons we have identified the areas of the recruitment process that were time consuming for Morrisons Management Team.  By eleviating this pressure we have allowed Morrisons to focus on the priority tasks for the business and continue to build a successful DC.  The current service at Morrisons consists of:
